A Big Responsibility!
We are delighted that you are considering adopting a Burmese kitten. As you are aware, bringing an animal into your home requires careful thought about the impact this decision will have on your routine and your finances, and whether your present lifestyle lends itself to the responsibilities of pet ownership. Although Burmese cats are about as "low maintenance" as any pet, and give far more in love and affection than you can put a price on, we still hope you will thoughtfully consider the following before you make this roughly 15 year commitment:
- Your Burmese will need to be provided daily with fresh water, quality food, and a clean litter box every day throughout their life. This is a 15 year commitment of time and money. If you go away for longer than one night, you will need to make arrangements for your cat to be cared for during your absence.
- Your Burmese will need to be neutered if you purchase a young cat or kitten (estimate at least $100-200 for a male and $200-300 for a female)
- Your Burmese will need regular veterinary care (estimate at least $100-$200 annually for well visits, plus additional expenses if your cat gets sick)
- Your Burmese will need your time and affection. Burmese are "people cats" who thrive on human interaction and attention. Please do not get a pet if your schedule rarely allows you to be home with them. You may enjoy seeing them when you do come home, but at what cost to your cat?
- You will need to commit to keep your Burmese indoors at all times. Burmese DO NOT have the typical protective instincts of most cats. Because of this, they are at the mercy of cars, cats, dogs, or other predators they may meet outside without attempting to run away.
Our Policies on Adoption
We guarantee our kittens to be in good health and free from any disease, deformity, injury, illness or defect that is congenital or heredity and that severely affects the health of the kitten. If, within 72 hours of purchase, a kitten is examined by a licensed veterinarian and diagnosed with any of the above conditions, we agree to pay all reasonable medical costs. Please see our Kitten Contract for further information/conditions of this agreement.
All kittens will have been examined twice by a licensed veterinarian and will have received two inoculations for panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, and calici (FVRC) and two treatments with nemex dewormer. The purchaser will need to provide one additional FVRC/C inoculation and a Rabies vaccination for the kitten at four months of age.
All kittens have been microchipped with an international chip, and the purchaser will receive forms and information to register their cat in the microchip database. We recommend using the Michelson Found Animals Foundation as they will register your pets free of charge. For more information on how microchips work, see www.foundanimals.org/microchip-register/
We require that all cats receive regular veterinary care including an annual exam and be kept up to date on their inoculations
All kittens are guaranteed pedigreed and the purchaser will be provided with a five generation pedigree and an official CFA application that can be used to register the kitten with the Cat Fanciers Association.
We require our kittens to be at least 3 months of age and weigh 2.5 pounds before releasing them to an adoptive home.
We will agree to hold a specific kitten(s) for a buyer once a deposit of $500 has been received. The deposit will be deducted from the total purchase price. The kitten will be released to the buyer on agreed upon date when the balance is to be paid in full. If the buyer decides not to purchase the kitten before taking possession, the deposit will be returned within 7 business days minus a $100 penalty.
We require that all cats be neutered/spayed between 5 and 7 months of age. This is important for the health and well-being of your pet cat, as well as your home, as in-tact males will spray urine to mark their territory and females will be in heat much of the time. Not fun! Pet cats may not be bred for any reason.
We require the purchaser to agree to keep their kitten indoors throughout their lifetime. We also require the purchaser to agree to never get their cat declawed.
